Do you have little ones? Are they just learning to walk? Or are they not use to walking in a forest? This place might just work for you. Just find Aplins weir on the Ross River, Townsville. The weir can be accessed from both sides of the river (The suburbs of Annandale or Mundingburra). The walk itself is on the Mundingburra side, at the back of the football field (See map below). Find the stairs and walk down. Soon you will be walking in a nice forest with a fairy trail. This trail is very close to the rotary park too, allowing you to combine playground time with the walk.
Here is a Google Map. Follow the dirt trail (below the main walking-bike trail).
The forest is by the river. The path is around 500 m long. It is shady and has lots of bugs, butterflys and beautiful trees. Watch out during wet season, as the path can get temporarily flooded. The trail ends near the river, where you can walk out on the jetty and take in the views.
