Before you start
Trail name: Anderson garden.
Distance: 2.1 km (one way)
How to get there: 23 Gulliver St, Pimlico. By car. If you take the bus, buses 200 and 201 stop at Ross river road on the corner of Gulliver street.
Do you want to meet a talking tree with shiny big blue eyes? It sounds like a fairy tale, right? Well it's not! This tree is rooted in Townsville, in Anderson garden, in Mundingburra.
Anderson garden is a botanical garden with a collection of many other magical and special trees, many of which are native to this area.
The magic tree is located at the beginning of the entrance at Gulliver Street (next to Kokoda memorial pool). You also find many waterbirds around the park and in the pond. There is a nice walking path but watch out for cars.
For some reason cars can also have access to the park. Because of the many trees, there is a lot of shady spots too, some with picnic tables.
Another entrance at the other side of the park, Balls lane entrance, has a little forest. This forest has the Cape York Peninsula Collection of plants, many seasonal butterflies, but also lots of mosquitos.
We really love this place. If you are new to Townsville and want a peaceful calm place where you can spend some time surrounded by trees, this is a place to go. We usually combine swimming (at Kokoda pool next door), walking/cycling, and then a picnic. If you know this place but haven't been there for a while, perhaps it is time to take the kids.....

Have a good time with the trees and remember to take care of the parks!
